More than ever before, the world is in a much bigger rush to go places and get things done. And it is this rushing that is part of the reason that people are hurting themselves while getting out of their cars. They may be in a rush to get where they are going, or they might have their hands full, or they're using their phones, or something else; whatever it is, the bottom line is that they are just not being careful. And when people aren't being careful when it comes to their backs is when injuries occur!

There is a definite right and wrong way to exit the car, as certain movements and positions can be terrible for your back. These tips help show what to do and NOT to do to avoid back pain:

DO NOT: Twist your back! The most important thing to remember is to try not to twist your back at all if possible. The ways that people move and twist when getting out of a car put extra stress on the spine and that can lead to back pain. Unfortunately, most people forget this rule until it's too late and the damage is done.

DO NOT: Move too quickly! Because people are often in such a hurry, they end up moving too fast. Being in such a rush can increase the pressure on the discs in the spine, and that is what can lead to back pain. You may be in a hurry to get where you are going, but it is not worth it if all of that hurrying ends with a lower back injury, so remember to move at a rate of speed that is most comfortable to you.

DO: Prepare yourself to exit your car by putting your left hand on the car seat and your right hand on the steering wheel. Not only does this brace you but it also helps keep unnecessary pressure off of your spine.

DO: As you are getting out of the car, try to turn your body and legs AT THE SAME TIME. By doing this you are twisting your back as little as possible.

DO: Use your knees and hips to stand up while using your arms as support. You want to avoid having to use your back at all when you stand up straight.

By remembering to follow these tips, you can avoid causing yourself any back pain when exiting your car!
