Sciatica Stretch of the Week: Piriformis Stretch

This week's Sciatica Stretch is the Piriformis Stretch! The piriformis is located in the buttocks region. The piriformis muscle runs close to the sciatic nerve so it can irritate the nerve and cause sciatic pain. When the piriformis muscle becomes tight and/or inflamed it can irritate the sciatic nerve. This can lead to a tingling and numbness that runs from the lower back all the way down the leg and even into your foot. It is very important to stretch the piriformis muscle if you are suffering from sciatica.

Back Pain Relief Tip: When To Use Ice or Heat To Treat Your Back Pain

When a person experiences back pain of some sort, one of the most simple ways of treating it is to apply heat or ice to the injured area. It can be very effective, and it is very easy for anyone to do at home. However, it is also one of the most misunderstood therapies in back pain treatment, because many people do not know when it is best to use ice instead of a heating pad, and vice versa.

Patient Outcomes: Cases #31 - 35

At the Illinois Back Institute, we believe that the outcomes of the patients we have treated are the key to helping new patients to understand their back problems. As a result, we are going to be publishing our catalog of over 3000 patient outcomes one-by-one, so that our patients can better understand the outcomes for the conditions that we treat. It is our belief that by publishing these outcomes, patients will be able to identify what is the best course of action to take to treat their conditions.

How Does Sudden Lower Back Pain Happen?

While any kind of back pain is bad, sudden lower back pain is often considered by many people to be the worst kind of pain, because it is so sudden and extreme. The fact that it can happen in an instant and leave you barely able to move can be very alarming. Fortunately, for the vast majority of people this kind of pain is very common and not related to a serious issue. However, for a very small percentage of people the pain could be indicative of a more serious and dangerous issue.
