This week's Sciatica Stretch is the Hip Flexor Stretch! The hip flexor is made up of two muscles called the illiacus and psoas muscles, and these two collectively are called the iliopsoas muscle. These muscles are attached to the lumbar spine and pelvis. Prolonged sitting increases the tightness in the hip flexor muscles, and if those muscles are tight it will alter body mechanics and posture which can affect your sciatica pain. Therefore, increased flexibility of the iliopsoas muscle is extremely important in order to decrease the severity of sciatica and lower back pain symptoms.
In America, most people spend a significant amount of time in their cars. So it is no surprise that many of the back pains that people suffer with are caused by the way they are getting out of their cars. In today's society people are often not being careful when getting out of the car, whether it is because they are in a hurry or have their hands full or other reasons. And because of this, they are at a greater risk of straining their back or worse!
Allen suffered a life changing event when he slipped and fell in Dallas many years ago. Since that moment he has been suffering with back pain. He was tried many treatments to relieve the pain, from chiropractors to hypnosis, but nothing was working and Allen was not living his life to the fullest. Even sitting in a chair for more then 30 minutes was painful for him.
Herniated Discs are one of the most common causes of back pain and discomfort in adults. Yet, it remains one of the least understood causes of chronic pain. While most people have heard of the term "Herniated Disc", and most also probably know that it involves something in the spine, many people do not know what it is exactly. It is always important for any kind of back pain to understand the source of the pain, because it is our belief that when the patient understands the source of the pain, the outcome of their treatments turn out much better.
