Our sciatica exercise for this week is the Hip Flexor Stretch! Prolonged sitting increases the tightness in the hip flexor muscles, and if those muscles are tight it will alter body mechanics and posture which can affect your sciatica pain. Therefore, increased flexibility of these muscles is extremely important in order to decrease the severity of sciatica and lower back pain symptoms.
For people who have to sit all of the time and are suffering from back pain because of it, one of the best ways to combat it is to stand up and walk around for a few minutes if you have been sitting too long. But obviously this may not be possible for everyone, since many people have jobs where they cannot leave their desks, or are doing something else where getting up and moving around is not feasible. So instead, do a micro break! It is a very simple stretch that can be done in any chair you are sitting in.
Carmelita suffered from several back problems, including herniated, bulging, and degenerated discs, and sciatica. Her pain was so bad that she decided to have surgery to try and correct the problem, but the surgery failed and only made her pain worse! It even got so bad that she was considering ending it all.
If you have ever experienced ongoing pain in the neck or back, you know just how much this type of discomfort can undermine your day. A lot of the time, this pain is being caused by poor head posture putting added pressure on the spine. Correcting your forward head posture can help to relieve this pain.
