When this 48 year old patient came to see us he was in severe pain. He had had back pain for over 23 years, and could hardly remember a time when he was not in pain. He was desperate to find some relief, and he was hoping that IBI could provide it.
Over the years he had tried several treatments for his back pain, including traditional physical therapy, chiropractic, and even 3 cortisone injections in his spine. The pain was so bad that he even saw a neurosurgeon who recommended he have surgery. But he wanted to try our treatment first before going under the knife.
The patient came into the clinic and we asked him some questions about his back pain. He stated his pain level was a 10, which is the highest it can be. We also tested him on the Oswestry Disability Index, which is a series of 10 questions used to determine the level of disability his pain was causing. He scored a 54 out of 100, which is considered a severe disability. Patients with this score are usually in a lot of pain and are almost always candidates for surgery.
We reviewed his MRI and determined that he was suffering with a herniated disc, a bulging disc, and spinal stenosis, which were also causing painful sciatica in his legs. We were very confident we could help him and we began treatment right away. In all he was in treatment for 33 sessions before being discharged from care. At that time his ODI score was a zero and he had no more back pain!
Illinois Back Institute followed up with this patient two and a half years after finishing treatment to find out how he was feeling now. He stated that he was still pain free, and his follow-up ODI score was still a zero as well!
