This week's Sciatica Stretch is the Hamstring Foam Roll Massage! Hamstrings can become extremely tight while compensating for one’s posture, and this can often place a severe strain on the lower back. This stretch will promote more blood flow to the area to increase the healing. It also increases extensibility of the hamstring muscle. The foam roll also massages your sciatic nerve because it runs close to the hamstring muscle.
Knowing the correct way to lift can help your back in several ways; most importantly it can prevent back pain. The biggest mistake that people make is that they lift objects using only their back. This puts a tremendous amount of pressure on the back and can lead to muscle strains and disc problems such as a bulging or herniated disc. The goal is to not flex forward with your spine while lifting.
There are certain jobs where you have to be alert at all times. For Dr. Nick Andriacchi's job as a foot and ankle surgeon, he needed to always be at his best. However, his neck pain was starting to affect his work by causing tingling in his hands and fingers. Because he was a surgeon, medication was not an option for him. So instead, Dr. Nick came to the Illinois Back Institute.
It could happen at anytime. You might be exercising, cleaning the house, cutting the lawn, picking something up off of the floor, or just getting out of a chair. Something you have done a hundred times before. But this time, something happens. You slip just a bit, or stumble a little, or twist your back in a way you shouldn't, and just like that you feel a sudden, sharp pain in your back!
At the Illinois Back Institute, we want to educate as many people as possible about their back pain and sciatica, because it has been proven that the more that you understand your problem, the more likely you are to eliminate it. This is why we regularly hold Free Educational Seminars at our clinics! At these seminars, you can learn all about your back, neck, and sciatica pain and how to eliminate it! Our upcoming seminars include ones at our Naperville and Wilmette clinics. You can click on the clinic below to reserve your seat:
