Most people stand at their sinks several times a day for some reason, whether it be to brush or floss your teeth, wash dishes, prepare meals, or maybe something else. Because this is such a common practice, it should not come as a surprise that it is a major cause of back pain! Two of the complaints we hear the most from people suffering with back pain are: "Whenever I brush my teeth, my back always starts hurting!" and "Just washing dishes for 10 minutes makes my back pain feel excruciating!" This is because when many people do these simple everyday tasks, they are doing them wrong!
Elizabeth heard a sound in her back that no one wants to hear, it was her discs popping. She had herniated multiple discs in her back and was in a great deal of pain. For ten years Elizabeth suffered with her back pain. She tried more traditional forms of physical therapy and they helped but she could never get the pain to go away. More importantly she was missing out on something she loved: riding her bicycle.
By now, almost everyone should know how important stretching is to keeping not just the back but the entire body healthy. Stretching is important because it increases flexibility and helps maintain the normal range of motion in the body. This is especially true as we age, because the daily wear and tear on our body can cause pain and other damage.
At the Illinois Back Institute, we want to educate as many people as possible about their back pain and sciatica, because it has been proven that the more that you understand your problem, the more likely you are to eliminate it.
