Our Sciatica Stretch this week is called the Hip Flexor Stretch! Prolonged sitting increases the tightness in the hip flexor muscles, and if those muscles are tight it will alter body mechanics and posture which can affect your sciatica pain. Therefore, increased flexibility of the muscle is extremely important in order to decrease the severity of sciatica and lower back pain symptoms.
Getting out of bed is something that almost everyone does on a daily basis. It seems simple enough for most people, but anyone who is suffering with back, neck, or sciatica pain know that even the tasks that seem the easiest can be some of the most challenging. For these people, just getting out of bed can not only be difficult, but extremely painful! The Back Pain Relief Tip for this week is about the proper way to get out of bed so that you do not put extra pressure on the spine and cause more pain. We call this technique the Logroll!
Most people have probably heard the term "spinal stenosis" before but have no idea what it is. They may only know that it involves the back and can be extremely painful. In fact, some people may even be suffering from spinal stenosis right now and not be aware of what it actually does or what causes it. However, it is important to know as much about it as possible so that you know how to treat it if you have it, or how to help prevent it from occurring if you don't.
Springtime is here and the temperature is rising. For anyone who is a homeowner, this means it is time to begin doing working on the yard. Whether it involves planting grass or flowers, some landscaping projects, or just generally cleaning up after the long winter, most everyone has to do some sort of lawn work. Unfortunately, it is also a common cause of back pain.
At the Illinois Back Institute, we want to educate as many people as possible about their back pain and sciatica, because it has been proven that the more that you understand your problem, the more likely you are to eliminate it.
