Can Your Shoes Be Causing Your Back Pain and Sciatica?

Posted by Illinois Back Institute on Thu, Jul 14, 2016 @ 02:38 PM

shoe_FB.jpgSometimes people suddenly start to experience back pain and sciatica and have no idea what they could have done to cause it. Often times they forget to look at their feet! People do not realize that if their shoes are not fitting correctly, it can actually change the way they walk and move around. And even a small change in their gait like that can lead to added pressure on the back, which in turn can lead to back pain and scaitica.

The easiest way to fix this problem is to make sure that your shoes fit properly and provide plenty of support. Also, make sure you are wearing the right type of shoe for the activity you are doing. However some people may still have issues with their gait, even with good shoes. These people may have problems with their feet, and should see a specialist to see if they need special shoes or orthotics to prevent them from walking unevenly.

The Illinois Back Institute is dedicated to educating people, because we know that the more that you understand about your problem, the more likely you are to eliminate it.
