Bill Mortell has been suffering from chronic back pain for the last 15 years. His MRI showed a bulging disc in his lumbar spine and his right sacroiliac has been coming out of the joint. Bill believes this all came from a golf injury. First the pain was shooting down through his legs and then to his lower back. The pain worsened over time and became chronic. For the last 28 years Bill has been seeing one chiropractor but he continued to be in pain.
Bill did not want to have surgery so he was looking for any other option. After learning more about the Illinois Back Institute he decided to start treatment. “I actually enjoy coming here quite a bit. I always feel better when I leave here. I’m making improvements over a short period of time.”
Bill’s acknowledges that the therapy is hard work but after a while his pain level does go down, and has now gotten down to a level of 1. “I also wanted to introduce one of the main ingredients here is physical therapy and I’m getting that and I’m very happy with it.” He believes in the therapy and will continue to work on his back with us however long it takes. Bill’s main goal is to repair damage and get a clear diagnosis of what is occurring in his spine.
Bill feels that his strength has been increasing everyday. When we asked him what he thought about his future he said, “When I think about my future now as not only being pain free but being able to do the things and understand the things that had gone wrong with my back. Being able to do the things that I need to be doing in order to make my life fuller again.”
“The environment and the staff here are just wonderful. I think it’s a nice, comfortable place to go to and work out and be aided by the staff in every direction that you turn.” The staff has also given Bill a program of stretches and exercises that will help strengthen his core and adjust his posture outside of the clinic. These stretches and exercises have been extremely helpful and have led to a decrease in pain over a short period of time.
We asked Bill if he would recommend the Illinois Back Institute and he replied, “If they have problems with their backs I would say definitely go there and these people are going to help you along your way by first diagnosing and then treating your predicament.”
