WCIU’s You and Me This Morning joins Dr. Jeff at our Wheaton clinic to discuss what patients can expect when coming in for their first appointment. The Illinois Back Institute is a team of medical professionals including chiropractors, physical therapists, and medical doctors that all work together as a team to alleviate chronic back problems; herniated discs, bulging discs, degenerated discs, stenosis, sciatica and neck pain.
What should one expect on their first visit to the Illinois Back Institute?
- First you will meet with the patient advocate. They will get your back pain history.
- If you haven’t gotten an MRI then they will set you up to get one.
- Once your MRI is done the medical doctor will go over it and identify where the problem is within the spine.
- From there the team will formulate a treatment plan for what the needs are for the patient.
Our goal is to relieving the pressure off the disc by allowing nutrients to flow back into the disc through Functional Disc Rehydration. Typically, when you have chronic back pain the disc breaks down and as the disc break down that’s how the pain develops and becomes “chronic”. While taking the pressure of the disc we have the supporting muscles are strengthened and reactivated to help the spine become stable once again, while eliminating tissue stress. Functional Disc Rehydration therapy has shown that patients can reactivate the muscles and discs that were once causing pain, as well as actually reverse degeneration.
