Check out Dr. Jeff on WCIU’s You and Me This Morning discussing what foods to avoid and what foods to add to your diet that will help your back pain. Back pain can be triggered by a number of things, one of them being the foods you eat. Your diet is a critical piece of the puzzle when it comes to controlling and avoiding back pain.

You want to avoid foods that cause inflammation in your body. The inflammation targets the area that is aggravated or the existing problem causing more pain. So if you already have a back problem inflammatory foods will increase your pain.

  • Pasta
  • Pretzels
  • Wheat Flour
  • White Bread
  • Cereal

  • Processed Foods
  • Fast Foods
  • Ice Cream
  • Cheddar Cheeses
  • Snack Foods
  • Soda, Caffeine and Alcohol

You don’t have to cut all these food completely out of your life but you definitely want to not have them as much. This is not saying that your pain will stop right away but over time the pain will decrease. It can take a couple months to feel any relief.

Foods You Should Be Eating

  • Cherries
  • Blueberries
  • Strawberries
  • Pineapple – Fast acting!
  • Ginger
  • Red Wine
  • Dark Chocolate
  • Seafood
  • Omega-3
  • Nuts
  • Water & Fresh Juices
  • Clean Meat

Added these foods to your diet can really make a change in your pain. It’s all about starting good habits and getting rid of bad habits.
