Check out Dr. Jeff making another visit to You & Me This Morning to discuss avoiding back pain while golfing with Jeanne Sparrow and Melissa Forman. Many golfers suffer from back pain. The key to avoiding back pain is how you move.
A big problem for golfers is tight hips. When you swing the golf club your upper body rotates on your lower body and if your hips are real tight then they don’t move forcing the motion on your lower back. This can throw off the mechanics in your spine and can worsen your shot over time.
The #1 thing for golfers to remember is to assume the hip hinge position and keep a good posture. Your hips need to be loose so it is important to warm them up before golfing.
There are 3 motions you can do with your legs to loosen up your hips.
- Pick up one leg and swing it front to back a few times and then repeat on the other side.
- Pick up one leg and swing it side to side and then repeat with the other leg.
- Pick up one leg and rotate it in and out and then repeat with the other leg.
Repeat these movements a few and it should loosen up your hips.
