Marathon runner Todd Loizzo injured himself at the age of 21 years old while using his back to lift two 150-pound dumbbells. Ever since then Todd has been living with the back pain hoping it would heal over time. Over the years Todd has tried multiple physical therapies, steroid shots, pain medicine, and cortisone shots but nothing ever worked. Todd didn’t like the risks with surgery so he continued to live his life fighting through the pain.
In November Todd came into the Illinois Back Institute with a pain level of 9 out of 10. His MRI showed that he was suffering with 2 degenerated discs and 2 bulging discs in his spine. Todd signed up for the therapy and finished his 36 sessions, pain free in late February. He is now about 6 weeks out of therapy and his pain level is still at a ZERO. Only once in a while when he’s very active his pain level will go up to a 1 but it always goes back to a 0 the next day. Before coming to Illinois Back Institute it would take Todd months to recover from certain activities causing a yoyo effect. Now he is more confident and doesn’t have to avoid doing physical activities.
- It took me a couple of weeks but I saw the logic to how they stretch your back and move the discs around and strengthen your core and do that over a long period of time and I can say that there really is a science and logic to it. It works! Amazingly it works!” Todd Loizzo
Todd’s first goal was to be able to start up running again. After only 8 weeks of therapy he was back up running. “My other goal was to run a half marathon in which I did about 3 weeks ago so that is something I could not have done before coming into the Illinois Back Institute,” said Todd. Not only was Todd able to complete his goal but he was also given the tools to continue strengthen his spine and core outside of therapy.
Todd’s favorite part about coming into the Illinois Back Institute was actually working with the staff. He enjoyed the friendships and support he made coming in weekly for therapy. Todd explained, “Everyone was just so friendly and motivating and had great attitudes and they really helped to pick you up and keep focused.”
