Lumbar Stenosis & Lower Back Pain Treatment - Pedro Estrada

Posted by Dr. Jeff Winternheimer D.C. on Tue, Apr 24, 2012 @ 07:15 PM

Pedro Estrada presented to the Illinois Back Institute in 2010 with low back pain radiating to both legs. This discomfort decreased his overall functional mobility and led to insomnia and an eventual leave of absence from work.  He was unable to walk more than 50 yards without increased pain, numbness, increased weakness and decreased balance- thus increasing his fall risk.

As part of his evaluation at IBI an MRI was ordered; showing significant lumbar stenosis at the L4/L5 and L3/L4 discs. This was the cause of his claudication (“limping”) and neuropathy (‘sick nerve”). Not only did Mr. Estrada have degenerative disc disease, but also an abnormal vertebral alignment or spondylolisthesis causing him pain with movement in multiple directions.

New Call to action

Before therapy at the Illinois Back Institute, Mr. Estrada was dealing with depression from his decreased quality of life; thinking “Am I ever going to get better?” He attempted many different chiropractic therapies previously, without any lasting improvement in his condition. His therapy involved spinal decompression, strengthening his core muscles and improving his balance. However at this point, Mr. Estrada still has the occasional symptom of tingling in his legs. This is expected because reversal of neuropathy requires time for complete healing; but his overall mobility has greatly improved.

The research that Dr. Jeff has done at IBI shows that nerves can return to normal function, the disc can be repaired with rehydration, and that the pain suffered from Neuropathy due to diabetes, MS, degenerative discs and other processes can be made better. People can get their life back!
