Back Pain Relief Tip of the Week: Learn How To Get Out Of Bed Correctly

And conversely, when you have back pain sometimes the things that used to be the easiest to do can be the most daunting and intimidating. This includes something that most people do every single day, such as getting out of bed. For people dealing with back pain or sciatica of any kind, just doing this simple task can be extremely painful and seem like it is impossible at times. For people who struggle to just get out of bed every morning because of their back pain and sciatica, or for anyone who wants to prevent themselves from causing back pain in the future, there is a technique that is the proper way to get out of bed without causing extra pressure on the spine with can lead to back pain. This week's Back Pain Relief Tip is about this technique, which is called the Logroll.

To perform the Logroll correctly, follow these steps when getting out of bed:

- First, move near the edge of the bed and lay on your side facing the edge.

- Next, slowly move your knees up towards your chest as much as possible. You want to keep your legs entirely on the bed while doing this, because if they hang off the side it will cause extra pressure on your lower back.

- Third, gently push your upper body up off the bed with your arms, while also slowly letting your legs fall off the edge of the bed. By sitting up this way you put most of your weight on your thighs, buttocks, and hips instead of your back.

- Finally, slowly push yourself up with your hands on your thighs. As you rise make sure to keep your head up and back straight.
