Posted by Illinois Back Institute on Tue, Apr 18, 2017 @ 05:16 PM

Getting_out_of_car1-2-1.jpgIn America people spend a significant amount of time in their cars. So it's no surprise that many of the back pains that people suffer with are caused by the way they are getting out of their cars. Often times in today's society people aren't careful when getting out of cars, because they may be in a hurry, have their hands full, or something else. And that puts them at a greater risk of straining their back or worse!

Just like getting out of a chair, there is a right and wrong way to exit your car as well. If you twist or move in a certain way while getting out of your car you can put added stress on your spine and cause back pain. Also moving too quickly while exiting the car can also put extra pressure on the discs in your spine. The most important thing to remember is that you move at a rate that is most comfortable to you. You should never be in a hurry when it comes to anything that can cause you back problems!

To exit your car the right way, follow these simple steps:

  • Place your left hand on the seat, while putting your right hand on the steering wheel
  • Turn your body and your legs at the same time so that you are not twisting your back unnecessarily
  • Finally, use your hips to stand up!

By following these very simple steps, you can avoid causing back pain while getting out of your car! And just remember, don't be in a rush!
