In America, most people spend a significant amount of time in their cars. So it is no surprise that many of the back pains that people suffer with are caused by the way they are getting out of their cars. In today's society people are often not being careful when getting out of the car, whether it is because they are in a hurry or have their hands full or other reasons. And because of this, they are at a greater risk of straining their back or worse!

Just like when you are getting out of a chair, there is a right and wrong way to exit your car as well. Certain ways that you twist and move while getting out of your car can put stress on your spine and cause back pain. Also, when you move too quickly while exiting you can add extra pressure on the discs in your spine. The most important thing to remember is to move at a rate that is comfortable to you. There is no need to be in a rush!
To exit your car the right way, just follow these simple steps:
- Place your right hand on the steering wheel, while placing your left hand on the seat.
- Turn your body and your legs at the same time so that you are not twisting your back unnecessarily
- Finally, use your hips to stand up
By following these simple steps, you will avoid causing back pain while getting out of your car! And just remember, there is no rush!

At The Illinois Back Institute we are dedicated to educating people, because we know that the more that you understand about your problem, the more likely you are to eliminate it. We specialize in Functional Disc Rehydration - a multi-disciplinary approach to making the back healthier without surgery, injections or medications. This works toward relieving the pressure off the disc by allowing the nutrients to flow back into it. In the meantime, the supporting muscles are strengthened and reactivated to help re-stabilize the spine.
