Getting out of bed is something that almost everyone does on a daily basis. It seems simple enough for most people, but anyone who is suffering with back problems know that even the tasks that seem the easiest can be some of the most challenging. For people with back, neck, or sciatica pain, just getting out of bed can not only be difficult, but extremely painful. The Back Pain Relief Tip for this week is about the proper way to get out of bed so that you do not put extra pressure on the spine and cause more pain. We call this technique the Logroll!

How to use the Logroll to get out of bed:
- While lying in bed, roll over onto your side so that you are facing the side of the bed that you want to get out of. You want to be near the edge of the bed, but not right on the edge.
- Slowly and gently bring your knees up to your chest as best you can. Make sure to keep your legs entirely on the bed while doing this so you don't put pressure on the lower back.
- Now, push your upper body up off of the bed with your hands and arms, while at the same time let your legs slowly fall off the edge of the bed. By doing this, most of your weight will be on your hip, thigh, and buttocks as you rise instead of your spine.
- Finally, put your hands on your thighs and push up and out of your bed, lengthening your back up as you do. Make sure you keep your back straight and your head up as you rise.
By getting out of bed using the Logroll, you can lessen the pressure put on your spine and decrease your back pain!
