Back Pain Relief Tip: 10 Minute Rule For Lifting

Posted by Illinois Back Institute on Tue, Dec 15, 2015 @ 04:54 PM

lifting1.jpgMuch of the back pain that people suffer with is caused by not lifting correctly. One of the main ways this occurs is because people lift objects immediately after getting up from a prone position. This can be very bad for your back. Too much activity after prolonged periods of sitting or lying down can result in back pain. If you have been off of your feet for a while, it is extremely important to wait to pick up anything or do anything aggressive with your back once you stand up. This is why our Back Pain Relief Tip of the week is called the 10 Minute Rule For Lifting!

There are two main points about this tip, and they should always be remembered:

Number 1 - If you have been seated for over 40 minutes, it is very important to wait for 10 minutes after standing before picking up anything. Otherwise you have a greater chance of causing injury to your back.

Number 2 - After getting out of bed, do not lift anything for at least 30 minutes!

By following these two tips, you can help avoid and prevent back pain while lifting!

At The Illinois Back Institute we are dedicated to educating people, because we know that the more that you understand about your problem, the more likely you are to eliminate it. We specialize in Functional Disc Rehydration - a multi-disciplinary approach to making the back healthier without surgery, injectionsormedications. This works toward relieving the pressure off the disc by allowing the nutrients to flow back into it. In the meantime, the supportingmuscles are strengthened and reactivated to help re-stabilize the spine.
