Back Pain Relief Diet Tip: Have Some Cherries (with recipe)

Today's focus of foods that can help improve the overall health of your back is cherries. Cherries are a great food for your back because they are full of antioxidants and other compounds that reduce inflammation. For example, cherries contain substances called anthocyanins, which provide the cherry's color and also have strong anti-inflammatory properties. Cherries also contain melatonin, which helps with inflammation (and can also help you sleep). In fact, some researchers have found that cherries have the highest anti-inflammatory content of any food!

Cherries are great because they are a quick and easy food. You can buy cherries and eat them plain, or you can drink cherry juice if you prefer, or you can have some fun with them and add them into a healthy meal or a snack. Here is a tasty recipe that includes cherries and makes for a great snack!


Crunchy-Sweet Nuts

Servings: 30 (Serving Size: 1 Ounce)


  • Cooking Spray
  • 3/4 Pound Assorted Nuts, or whatever kind of nuts you prefer
  • 4 Teaspoons Sugar
  • 2 Teaspoons Chinese Five-Spice Powder
  • 6 Teaspoons Tamari
  • 1 Cup Dried Cherries


Preheat the oven to 350°, and coat a baking sheet with cooking spray. Combine assorted nuts, sugar, five-spice powder, and tamari in a bowl and make sure it's mixed well. Spread the mixture evenly on the baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes. Remove from oven, add dried cherries, and serve!
