Tip #5 on our list of foods that can help with your back pain is a spice known as Turmeric. Most people know it as the main spice in the Indian food Curry; in fact Turmeric is what gives Curry its yellow color. The Indian people have been using it for thousands of years, not just as a spice but as a medicinal herb as well. Turmeric has many beneficial properties that can help not only with your back pain but other health problems as well. Some of these properties are:
- Turmeric is a very powerful anti-inflammatory substance. It has been found to be nearly as powerful as some anti-inflammation medications, and does not have the side effects that those medications might.
- It is a very strong antioxidant, which helps protect you from the bad "free radicals" in your body.
- Turmeric is also a natural painkiller, antiseptic, and antibacterial agent, and can actually help speed up healing.
People have also used Turmeric to fight cancer and Alzheimer's Disease, and as a treatment for depression, among other things.
Today's recipe that we are using Turmeric with is the Spiced Kale Scramble. it's a nutritious and easy way to start your morning. This breakfast meal can be made in about 5 minutes!
Spiced Kale Scramble
- 2 Eggs
- 1 Cup Kale (preferrably chopped)
- 1½ Teaspoons Turmeric
- 1 Teaspoon Garlic Powder
- 1 Tablespoon Butter
- Salt and Pepper
Heat the butter in a skillet, and while this is happening whisk the eggs in a separate bowl. When the butter is melted, add the Kale into the skillet and cook it until it is slightly wilted, stirring continuously. Then add in the Eggs, Turmeric, Garlic Powder, and Salt and Pepper and cook for just a minute or two (depending on your preference). You're done! Enjoy your healthy breakfast with Turmeric!
