Back Pain Relief Tip: Remember To Take Micro Breaks!



We have established before that the world that we live in has become one where, for many people, sitting is a necessity. In fact, most people spend too much time sitting, and all of that sitting is one of the main reasons that the number of cases of people suffering with back pain, neck pain, or sciatica has increased dramatically in a short amount of time.

Previously, we suggested that people who have been sitting for too long should stand up and move around for a couple minutes. But that may not be possible for some people, such as people whose job may prevent them from being able to leave their desk. So, we recommend taking what is called a micro break every hour or so. This stretch is very simple and can be done from any chair:

  • Step 1: Scoot to the front edge of the chair
  • Step 2: Sit up straight, with your feet firmly on the floor and pointing forward, and knees about shoulder width apart
  • Step 3: Stretch out your arms at your sides with palms facing outward
  • Step 4: Hold your shoulders back
  • Step 5: Rotate your palms in small circles, which will roll your shoulders back
