Back Pain Relief Tip: Use Micro Breaks To Help Relieve Back Pain!

lower_back_pain_fb_2x1.jpgWe have discussed previously how most of society in the United States has become a culture of sitting, and how for very many people, sitting is a requirement. Whether it be sitting at work, or sitting in a car or train to get to work, or sitting at home to relax, people are sitting way more than they ever have before. And the fact that people are sitting so much more is one of the main reasons for the dramatic increase in the number of cases of back, neck, and sciatica pain in such a short amount of time.

For people who have to sit all of the time and are suffering from back pain because of it, one of the best ways to combat it is to stand up and walk around for a few minutes if you have been sitting too long. But obviously this may not be possible for everyone, since many people have jobs where they cannot leave their desks, or are doing something else where getting up and moving around is not feasible. So instead, do a micro break! It is a very simple stretch that can be done in any chair you are sitting in.

To perform the micro break stretch, first move forward until you're sitting on the very edge of the chair. Now sit up straight with your knees shoulder width apart and both feet flat on the floor, and stretch your arms out to your sides with your palms facing up. Finally, hold your shoulders back and begin rotating your palms in small circles, which will also start to cause you to roll your shoulders. Keep doing this as long as needed to relax your muscles and reduce tension.

Some people may find these instructions confusing, so this video will help explain the micro break further and show how it is performed:

By remembering to take time to do these simple Micro Breaks from time to time, you can prevent back pain from occuring!
