This case study is about a 48 year old man who came into our clinic for help with his back pain. He had been suffering with back pain for well over a decade, and had tried several different methods to treat it. But no treatment he tried relieved the pain for long, and he was hesitant to undergo any invasive treatment such as injections or surgery. He felt like he was running out of options, until he heard about the Illinois Back Institute.

After seeing a commercial online, he decided to give us a call and schedule a Free Consultation. When he first came to us he said his back pain first started about 11 and a half years ago and had only gotten worse, and at this point it was nearly constant and even travelled down into his foot! He stated his pain level was currently at a 7 on a scale of 0 to 10, with 10 being the worst pain imaginable. And that was a good day. We also measured him on the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), which is a test that doctors use to determine a patient's level of disability. On a scale of 0 to 100, our patient scored a 50, which is considered a Severe Disability where the back pain is affecting most areas of the patient's life.
The patient told us he had previously been to 3 different doctors who prescribed several traditional treatments, including:
- Physical Therapy
- Over-the-counter drugs and NSAIDs
- Prescription pills
- Pain medication
Each new treatment would work for a little while, but the pain would always come back. Now his doctors were recommending he receive spinal injections, and if those didn't work, surgery. But that was something he definitely wanted to avoid. So he decided to give our treatment a try instead.
On the first day of treatment, we examined the patient's MRI to determine just exactly what back problems he was suffering from. The MRI showed that the patient had:
- Herniated Disc
- Bulging Disc
- Degenerated Disc
- Sciatica
- Radiculopathy (pinched nerve)
Even though he had a lot of different back problems, we knew our treatment could eliminate each of them, and we got started immediately. Remember, on the first day of treatment he said his pain was a 7 and his ODI was a 50; after just four weeks of treatment his sciatica had improved and his ODI was all the way down to a 24, and after 8 weeks his pain level was down to 1. At the end of his treatment, his ODI was only a 2, his sciatica was gone, and he said his pain level was a zero!
