As the weather warms up most of us are pulling out our flip-flops and sandals. A bad pair of flat flip-flops can lead to back pain symptoms and can throw your whole balance off. Sandals and flip-flops offer little protection.
With the warm weather here there is no avoiding wearing sandals or flip-flops but you can choose the right ones. Make sure that your sandal supports the arch in your foot. The sandal also should keep the foot stable with support and your heel and toes.
Most flip-flops tend to alter your gait, taking shorter steps, which can lead to pain in other areas of the body. I suggest only wearing flip-flops for a short period of time like going to the beach or to the shower. Don’t wear them if you plan on doing a lot of walking.
Not only do sandals and flip-flops throw off your balance and cause back pain but so do heels. Wear heels in moderation. The lower the heel the better. Also, with heels you also should avoid wearing heels for long periods of time.
