With more and more people working in offices or some other type of desk job, back issues caused by sitting all day in a desk chair are becoming a much bigger issue than in years past. Believe it or not, one of the most common causes of back pain involves the simple act of getting out of a chair. Many people are doing it improperly and in the process are putting too much pressure on the discs in their spines. This week's Back Pain Relief Tip is about the proper way to stand up out of a chair. It is very simple and can be done in three easy steps:

Step 1: Scoot as close as you can to the front edge of the chair you are sitting in.
Step 2: Move your feet underneath your body as much as you can, while keeping them firmly on the ground. This way they are supporting your body weight instead of your lower back.
Step 3: Stand up using your hips and legs.
By standing up in this manner you avoid flexion that puts too much pressure on your back and can lead to back problems!
